Computational Mechanics

1 Assistant Professor position
(Deadline July 17th, 2023 13:00 )
Profile

The researcher will have to carry out research activities in the field of Structural Mechanics, and in particular on Computational Mechanics. The research activities will focus on the development of numerical methods aimed at the simulation of problems of fracture mechanics and/or of contact mechanics between solids, and the related coupled problems. We are therefore looking for candidates with expertise in the development and implementation of numerical methods for fracture and contact in finite element analysis software.

The researcher will apply these methods to the study of coupled materials (high-tech coatings, glued composite materials for the industrial paper sector) and for the simulation of fracture phenomena in brittle materials, with applications to cultural heritage.

It is envisaged that the researcher will contribute to the expansion of both internal collaborations, through interdisciplinary research initiatives within the School, and external ones, with collaborations with national and international research groups, thus increasing the visibility of the School and its impact.

The ability to collaborate with local, national and international industrial realities and to transfer knowledge and technology will also be evaluated.

The researcher will contribute to the courses for the PhD in Management of Digital Transformation and for the Track in Computational Mechanics of the PhD in Systems Science on topics related to numerical simulation, based on the teaching needs of the IMT School.

He/she will also contribute to the co-supervision of the School's doctoral students and to the supplementary teaching and service activities for students, strengthening the educational offer by organizing specialist research seminars on topics of transversal interest to the School’s research units.
