The issue of Otherness, or of the Other and his perception, in the medieval world has stimulated many researches which reflect a very varied set of concepts and methodologies. The Other, that is, the one who has cultural bases different from ours, dominant, submissive or simply 'close', or 'different' due to his belonging to a specific religious, ethnic or social group, is a concept created from the gaze of external observers, in a game of mirrors and reflections. The perception, reception and representation of the Other can be examined through a series of concrete, sometimes atypical, cases originated by different contexts.
