The service oriented computing (SOC) paradigm enables software application developers and service providers to dynamically grow application portfolios by seamlessly integrating services, information, and processes over the networks. One of the most relevant capabilities that this paradigm should provide is the ability of applications and services to adapt themselves and to evolve in reaction to unexpected changes of, e.g., technology, regulations, requirements, usage contexts, market opportunities. In the seminar, we will present a framework that we are developing in Trento, which supports the adaptation and evolution of service oriented applications developed according to the SOC paradigm. In particular, we will introduce the formal definition of adaptation and evolution adopted by the framework; then we will discuss the capabilities offered by the framework and the open problems in this context.
