The Open Lab is a multidisciplinary laboratory for cognitive-behavioral experiments equipped with two sound-proofed cabins (Boxy and B-ear), outfitted with equipment for carrying out cognitive-behavioral experiments. The cabins are equipped with instruments that allow for the recording of central and peripheral physiological parameters, including electroencephalograms (64-electrode Geodesiche headphones, 250-1000 Hz sampling rate, EGI-philips system), electrocardiogram (cardiac activity), electrooculogram (ocular activity), electromyogram (muscular activity) and respiratory activity. Furthermore, through the LiveTrack Lightning system it is possible to record eye movements with a sampling frequency of 60-500 Hz, an accuracy of 0.25° and a resolution of less than 0.05°, in addition to the ability to perform pupillometry. The system for the detection of eye movements can be easily synchronized (TTL triggers and digital markers) with the EEG recording system.
Each of the two soundproof rooms is equipped with a computer optimized for the presentation of visual (by monitor or LEDs), tactile (Dancer Design system for vibrotactile stimulations) and auditory (Bose) sensory stimuli, as well as push-button panels and additional devices for the collection of behavioral responses by volunteers. One of the two rooms is equipped with a Display ++ calibrated monitor (Cambridge Research Systems), which allows for visual stimulation thanks to the control of luminance in real-time, high contrast, the correction of gamma and the complete independence of the pixels. It is also synchronized with the eye movement detection system and allows for the recording of behavioral responses using a compatible keypad. The larger room also offers the possibility of setting up a bed for experiments during sleep.
