Confidential counsellor

Who is the Confidential counsellor?

The Confidential counsellor has been appointed by the IMT School for Advanced Studies Lucca to provide advice and assistance to those in the academic community (students, researchers, professors) and among the technical-administrative staff who has suffered from discrimination, harassment, and/or mobbing.
The role of Confidential counsellor was established by European Commission Recommendation 92/131/EEC of 27 November 1991 on the protection of the Dignity of Women and Men at Work and by European Parliament Resolution A3-0043/94.
The figure, as required by the Confidential counsellor founding Regulation to prevent and counter discrimination and harassment in work and study places, cooperate and relates to the School Central Guarantee Committee about the results of its activity.
 
Starting from March 1, 2022, and for a term of 4 years, the role of Confidential counsellor at the IMT School has been assigned to Dr. Francesca Pidone.
 
 

What can the Confidential counsellor do?

The Confidential counsellor has the following main tasks:
  • To provide assistance and listening, in the guarantee of complete anonymity, to those who have suffered from harassment, discrimination and/or mobbing occurring in the School's places of study or work. At the request of the person concerned, the Confidencial Counsellor informs about the different options for dealing with the event and, in case, treats the solution to it;
  • To monitor any situations of risk when reported and, in the guarantee of complete anonymity, to carry out activities to detect the extent and nature of the phenomenon in individual cases.

The Confidential counsellor can be reached:

  • at the School in Piazza San Ponziano n. 6, in the Meeting Room at the ground floor or in the Sottotetto at the third floor, according to what was communicated.
 
Moreover, the Confidential Counsellor is available by appointment at the office or remotely, to be scheduled by email or phone.
 

Some useful definitions:

  • Discrimination: any behaviour intended to discriminate against a person on the grounds of sex, gender, ethnicity, race, religion, sexual orientation, personal and political beliefs, disability, age, and any other factors.
  • Moral or psychological harassment: any unwanted behaviour that creates a hostile, humiliating, degrading, and offensive environment that threatens a person’s psychological and/or physical integrity.
  • Sexual harassment: any unwanted behaviour or conduct of a sexual nature, degrading attitude, and verbal and/or physical conduct aimed at affecting a person’s sexuality and dignity.
  • Mobbing: a series of actions or behaviours that are systematic and repeated over time, with disparaging and vexatious overtones that can undermine a person’s professionalism and dignity in the workplace or study environment.
