Dynamics and GNC for autonomous proximity operation in the lunar space

18 September 2024
9:00 am
San Francesco Complex - classroom 1

The seminar addresses the complex nonlinear dynamics of the Earth-Moon system, focusing on state-of-the-art Guidance, Navigation, and Control (GNC) techniques that can enhance the currently limited autonomy in proximity operations near the Moon. The talk covers key aspects of the restricted three-body problem, including the existence of Lagrange points and non-Keplerian orbits. It then explores the challenges of conducting proximity operations (prox-ops) within this unique environment. Finally, the seminar presents examples of GNC algorithms designed to autonomously execute proximity operations in the lunar vicinity.
