Stay Permit Application (Only for NON EU Students)
The Stay Permit (Permesso di Soggiorno) is a document that all non-EU students will need to apply for in order to stay and study in Italy legally.
The request for the Stay Permit must be done within 8 working days from your arrival in Italy. The Stay Permit will be issued by the local Police Headquarters - Immigration Office (Questura - Ufficio Immigrazione).
You can book an appointment with the Campus Management and Front Office of the School (facilities@imtlucca.it) that will help you going through the application of the Stay permit.
- The request kit (available at the Post Office): it is an envelope containing the application form (Form 1 - Modello 1) to fill with your general information and your Visa Information;
- The Invitation letter sent to you by the School;- A copy of all pages of your passport (except the blank pages);
- Copy of the health insurance policy (when you arrive in Italy for the first time we recommend you to apply for a health insurance that covers you for at least throughout the current year);
- Receipt of the postal bulletin (bollettino postale) of € 70,46 (cost of your Stay Permit card);
- Duty stamp(marca da bollo) of € 16,00;
You have to bring it to the Post Office, where they will give you a letter with the date and time of your appointment with the Immigration Office and a receipt with the credential (ID number and password) to enter the Questura's website. You have to pay € 30,00 to the Post Office for the expedition of the Stay Permit request to the Immigration office. Therefore, the entire cost of the Stay Permit procedure will be € 116,46.
You can contact the Campus Management and Front Office of IMT School (facilities@imtlucca.it) which will ask the Immigration Office of the Questura di Lucca to anticipate the appointment date.

On that day, you will complete the process for the issuing of your Italian Stay Permit and you will be fingerprinted too.You should bring with you the following documents:- The letter that the Post Office gave you with all the information about the meeting;- The postal receipts;- Your valid passport;- 4 colour
passport-size photos on white background;- The original documents that you have enclosed in the application kit.
You will be able to collect your Stay Permit usually in one or two months. The Immigration Office will send you an SMS on your mobile telephone once ready.
You can show him/her the receipts given to you by the Post Office since they substitute temporarily the Stay Permit.
No, you cannot. It is a personal document that the Immigration Office can only hand in to you.
Your first Stay Permit will last one year (the same duration of your Study Visa). It will be possible to apply for a 2 years Stay Permit only at your first renewal.
Renewal of the Stay Permit (Only for NON EU Students)
It is your responsibility to check the expiry date of your Stay Permit, and to contact the Campus Management and
Front Office of the School at least 60 days before the expiry date (not before!).

Yes, you can renew it within 60 days after the expiration date.

- A copy of the attendance certificate that you have to ask to PhD Higher and Education Office (phd@imtlucca.it);
