Experimental mechanics; Material testing; Materials science and enginnering

Experimental testing of materials and surfaces and interpretation of experimental results using the MUSAM-Lab facilities. Activities will focus both on fundamental and applied research, also in relation to the mission of technology transfer towards external companies. Moreover, a collaboration to the supervision of PhD students and a contribution to the PhD programmes of IMT might be requested

Prospective applicants should hold a doctoral degree in Materials Science and Engineering or related areas. The applicant must show from his curriculum and list of publications a capacity to carry out experimental research in the laboratory for the characterization of mechanical properties of materials and surfaces using the following equipment available in the MUSAM-Lab, such as: scanning electron microscope equipped with a tensile stage for in situ mechanical testing; confocal profilometer for surface roughness characterization; universal testing machine for strength and fracture mechanics testing of materials and structural components; thermal infra-red and electroluminescence cameras for photovoltaic modules. Experience also in modelling, simulation and statistical methods, for the interpretation of experimental results, willbe a preferential requirement

Formal requirements

Degree of doctor of philosophy in Materials Science and Engineering, or related areas, compulsory for the admission to the selection. Excellent knowledge of English, both written and spoken.
