Profile

During the duration of the contract, the winner of this position will have to carry out research and educational training activities in the field of labor economics and technological change, with particular reference to the labor market consequences of process automation and to the relationship between artificial intelligence and high-skilled human capital. The selected researcher must have developed interdisciplinary experiences at the intersection of economics, statistics and computer science, knowing how to combine machine learning techniques and econometrics methodologies for causal analysis. The researcher will be asked to analyze integrated micro-data on technologies, firms and employment dynamics with a focus on the role of public policies and sectors with high intensity of human capital.

Activity

The Candidate must have an excellent knowledge of the state of the art of scientific and methodological research in the fields of labor economics and technological change. The candidate will also need to have an in-depth knowledge of the different methodological approaches, including statistical learning techniques, for the analysis of microdata on the dynamics of technological change, professions, firms and institutions. In light of the integrated multidisciplinary activities of the IMT School, the candidate must promote and stimulate collaborations between the disciplines of statistics, artificial intelligence, machine learning, economics, management and analysis of Cultural Industries. The researcher will therefore also be expected to participate to the activities of the ARTES 4.0 competence center and of the Innovation Center Lab, and to those related to the collaboration with INAPP. The researcher may be required to carry out teaching activities within the curriculum of the doctoral course present at the School, as well as to offer a contribution to new educational programs, to the doctoral seminar activities, to the supervision of the students and to the organization of seminars, conferences and other scientific and cultural initiatives of the School.

Formal requirements

PhD in a field related to the present call obtained in Italy or abroad. Curriculum with a suitable scientific background for carrying out research activity in the required field. Excellent knowledge of English, both written and spoken.

Procedure

A Selection Committee, appointed by the Rector, assesses all applications on the basis online application info. Applicants selected on the basis of the preliminary analysis are interviewed at the Job Market Meetings in which the Institute is planning to participate, if applicable to the specific academic sector. Alternatively, individual interviews may also be conducted at IMT or by conference call. Travel expenses to Lucca for the interview will be reimbursed.

The evaluation criteria are based on: Quality of research activity, including publications in peer-reviewed journals and references; Research organization experience and participation in international/national research projects and research periods in public and private institutions (academic and non-academic); Relevance of the candidate's profile for the development of IMT's research activities; Teaching, mentoring and supervision experience; Motivation; Excellent knowledge of English, both written and spoken; As well as any other requirements as specified in the advertisement.
