In the face of the recent public and academic debate on the occupation of public space, where there are colonial and dissonant material traces and legacies, the IMT School For Advanced Studies Lucca is pleased to launch a Summer School which aims to address and analyze, on a case-study basis, the dissonances that emerge from conflictual interpretations of spaces and contexts (monuments, street names, museums, archives, collections, buildings, etc.) across different historical periods and geographies.
The school wants to create a dialogue between different research fields and areas of social sciences and humanities investigation, questioning the applicability of a single lens in studying the specificities of various international case studies and proposing new methodological approaches.
The call for Applications addresses Ph.D. students and early-stage researchers interested in topics related to complex heritage through an interdisciplinary approach, such as:
- Decolonial, post-colonial, critical approaches to cultural heritage (broadly including museums, archives, and archaeological sites) in Italy and/or internationally;
- The use and reuse of public space (including monuments, toponymy, public architectures, etc.) confronting public actors, political demonstrations, international movements, and artist-activist interventions;
- Education, community building, and engagement through artistic and curatorial projects reflecting on difficult heritage.
The application deadline is set for April 30, 2023.
The Summer School will be held in English, allowing participants to share their research among an international community of scholars and practitioners.
