Applyed Physics;
The appointed fixed-term researcher will conduct research on the topics characterizing the field of Applied Physics (e.g. study, production and development of physical methodologies to be employed in different applicative contexts, such as the medical, biological, biophysical, environmental and socio-economic ones). Of particular relevance will be the competences concerning the definition of models for biological, environmental and socio-economic phenomena.
Participation in the development of the School research activities. Interdisciplinary collaborations to develop and apply quantitative methods for data analysis. Tutorship and mentoring of PhD students. The position will strengthen one of the core missions of IMT Lucca in the multidisciplinary analysis of complex systems dynamics, via the application of data-driven methods and network-based methods (e.g. agent-based models; percolation models; models for network inference from observed time series) to study problems of interest in the context of the natural, social, economic, financial sciences and engineering (e.g. the diffusion of epidemics, the propagation of signals and shocks, the formation of opinions).
The ideal candidate is a scholar with a solid research background in network science and data science at the international level, an excellent publication track record with clear evidence of the results achieved so far and future perspectives. A specific experience in teaching at the post-graduate (master and doctorate) level will be considered as a plus.

Procedure
A Selection Committee, appointed by the Director, assesses all applications on the basis online application info and - if provided - reference letters. Applicants selected on the basis of the preliminary analysis are interviewed at the Job Market Meetings in which the Institute is planning to participate, if applicable to the specific academic sector. Alternatively, individual preliminary interviews may also be conducted at IMT or by conference call. Travel expenses to Lucca for the preliminary interview will not be reimbursed. Shortlisted candidates are invited for a Job Market Presentation open to IMT faculty members and students. Travel expenses for the Job Market Presentation will be reimbursed.
Selection Criteria
The evaluation criteria are based on: Quality of research activity, including publications in peer-reviewed journals and references; Research organization experience and participation in international/national research projects and research periods in public and private institutions (academic and non-academic); Relevance of the candidate's profile for the development of IMT's research activities; Teaching, mentoring and supervision experience; Motivation; Excellent knowledge of English, both written and spoken; As well as any other requirements as specified in the advertisement.
