Ex Boccherini - Piazza S. Ponziano 6 (Conference Room )
The presentation will present some changes in the French museum landscape since 2000, especially regarding the museums of ethnography, or museums of the Other,
with the creation of the Musée du quai Branly (dedicated to non European arts and cultures), the closing down of the Museum of Popular Arts and Cultures, replaced by Museum of European and Mediterranean Civilisations in Marseille, and finally, the opening in 2015 of a "New Museum of Man". These new creations and refoundations raise issues about the transformation of the meaning of the collections and their display, with tensions between art, science, heritage. They also raise the question of how European societies lead with colonial legacies.
