San Francesco - Via della Quarquonia 1 (Classroom 1 )
My presentation, based on my new book "Le altrui scale. Scritti di liberalismo classico e indipendentismo" (A Stranger's Stairs. Classical-liberal and indipendentist essays), will deal with the troubled relations between classical liberalism on the one side, and independence movements all over Europe on the other. The issue I will address is that of classical liberalism meant as a possible ideology for at least some of the independence movements roaming through Europe, from Scotland to Veneto, from Catalunya to Ukraine. The presentation will also argue that most of the independence movements are, on the contrary, leaning towards left, and the creation of new states is meant as a potential establishment of new welfare states, instead of light and "libertarian" states
