I was born in Caltagirone (Sicily, Italy) on July 7th 1983. I got both my bachelor's and master's degree in Computer Engineering from the University of Catania respectively in AY 2004 and 2007 with theses on Grid computing. From May 2007 to February 2009 I worked as a system administrator for Consorzio COMETA in the field of Grid and High Performance Computing. Starting from March 2009 I was a PhD student in Computer Science and Engineering at IMT Lucca. I graduated in 2012 with a thesis on big data, web mining and data intensive scalable computing. Since October 2011 I have been working as a postdoctoral researcher at Yahoo! Research Barcelona.

Research Interest

My main research interests is in large scale data mining with distributed and parallel systems, with an emphasys on scalable computing.

My PhD thesis is titled "Big Data and the Web: Algorithms for Data Intensive Scalable Computing".

I collaborate with the HPC Lab in ISTI-CNR (Pisa), where you can find also my thesis supervisor Claudio Lucchese.
