Activity

Participation in the ERC Starting Grant CA2PVM research activities on the development of computational models for the assessment of the durability of photovoltaic modules. In particular, the following activities will be undertaken during the project:

Development of finite element meshes for modelling laminates used in photovoltaics, using 3D brick elements and shell elements.
Development of a specific subroutine for post-processing the results of finite element simulations to determine the displacement field acting on solar cells, to be passed as input to meso-scale models of the cells for fracture mechanics simulations.
Development of a computational framework for the study of the effect of wind gusts on the vibration of photovoltaic modules (fluid-structure interaction), depending on mounting conditions, mechanical and geometrical properties of the laminate.

Formal requirements

Possession of a 4 or 5-year degree in Mechanical or Aeronautical Engineering or in a related field. Excellent knowledge of English, both written and spoken.

Specific requirements

A PhD in related scientific areas is preferable. Research experience on the use of computational fluid dynamics software and on finite element method for the solution of engineering problems. Excellent knowledge of Matlab.
