Random Graphs and models of Complex Networks

1 Visiting Professor position
(Deadline January 9th, 2025 13:00 )
Profile
The ideal applicants are senior scientists and experienced lecturers with a long track record of research and teaching at the interface between Graph Theory, Probability Theory, Complex Networks, Random Matrices and Statistical Physics. We are looking for a charismatic and enthusiastic Visiting Professor who can on one hand expand the teaching offer of the Complex Systems and Networks track of the IMT School's PhD program in Systems Science, and on the other hand contribute to the research and PhD supervision activity of the Networks Research Unit. At the same time, given the strong interdisciplinarity of the topics of interest, we expect the Visiting Professor to interact with other PhD tracks and Research Units of the School as well. For this reason, we will specifically value the evidence of a regular and fruitful prior experience of collaboration with national and international experts in various scientific fields, such as physics, mathematics, computer science, neuroscience, medicine, biology, ecology, and the social sciences. The Visiting Professor will have the ability of creating academic bridges between the IMT School and other institutions, thereby strengthening the network of research and teaching collaborations of the School.

Activity
The successful candidate will operate within the NETWORKS unit, whose main focus is the study of the structure, dynamics and physics of networks emerging from the intricate interconnectedness of the constituents of large complex systems. The NETWORKS unit combines a theoretical approach, largely based on statistical physics, information theory, discrete mathematics and sustainability science, with a data-driven approach informed by the empirical properties of real-world complex networks, especially those naturally emerging in financial, economic, social, ecological, neural and biological systems. The Visiting Professor's activity is expected to fully integrate within the landscape of the Complex Systems and Networks track of the IMT PhD program in Systems Science and to expand the related teaching offer. Engagement in PhD co-supervision activities is encouraged. Given the strong interdisciplinarity of the topic, the collaboration with other research units at the IMT School is also welcome.
