Optimization, control, and identification of dynamical processes

Activity

Research, tutorship and mentoring of the School's Ph.D. students, limited teaching and participation in the development of the School's research activities.

Formal requirements

PhD in Engineering or Applied Mathematics or related areas with a focus on optimization methods, control, or systems identification, which is to be earned before the date of appointment. The candidate must have a curriculum with a suitable scientific and professional background for carrying out research activity in the required field. Excellent knowledge of English, both written and spoken.

Specific requirements

Candidates must have a strong theoretical background and the ability or willingness to apply the research methodologies to case studies of industrial interest.

Experience in model predictive control, convex optimization methods, or systems identification/machine learning algorithms will be considered as a plus.

The main tasks of the successful candidate will be to participate to the research activities of the group related to data-driven integrated process control, interacting with the PhD students and other researchers of the group, and with the European universities and companies involved in the collaborative DISIRE project that supports the postdoctoral fellowship.

Candidates must have an excellent track record of high-impact international publications. Candidates' attitude and motivations will be evaluated as well.

Procedure

A Selection Committee, appointed by the Director, assesses all applications on the basis online application info and - if provided - reference letters. Shortlisted candidates, selected on the basis of the preliminary analysis, are invited for a research presentation at IMT. Travel expenses to Lucca for the research presentation interview will not be reimbursed.

Selection Criteria

The evaluation criteria are based on: Quality of research activity, including publications in peer-reviewed journals and references; Research organization experience and participation in international/national research projects and research periods in public and private institutions (academic and non-academic); Relevance of the candidate's profile for the development of IMT's research activities; Teaching, mentoring and supervision experience; Motivation; Excellent knowledge of English, both written and spoken; As well as any other requirements as specified in the advertisement.
